What will we do to address the current problems?
- We will deliver promised pay rises, not keep putting them off;
- Reverse the smallest pay rise (0.3%) in our history, by claiming the 2.2% owed;
- Make safety and firefighter health a priority, see here for comprehensive information;
- Increase democracy – more general meetings, more sub-branch meetings;
- We will carry out an official audit of the Union’s finances over the last 6 years (min);
- Provide more transparency in voting results and figures;
- Ensure proposed awards are clearly defined and explained;
- Provide further pay rises in Operational Support roles that were ignored last Award;
- Delivery of shorter, more clear Awards – see our draft Award as evidence of this;
- Enforce Award agreements and defend our conditions;
- Remove political parties influence from our office, politics, processes and finances;
- Restore proper governance and member’s faith in the Union’s financial behavior;
- SITREPs and CODE REDs will be restored to being a trusted source of information;
- Reverse the largest membership drop (6400 to 5800 in 4 years) in our history;
- Ceasing the excessive use of lawyers and frivolous use of members’ money;
- We will hold the 2024 plebiscite that was unethically delayed in early 2024;
- Create an FBEU intranet with online access for members and online / e-voting;
- Restore stability for our office staff, and return experience and knowledge;
- Deliver Awards in a more timely fashion, starting negotiations earlier;
- We will not wreck, we will build. Good FBEU systems will be continued and improved;
Award negotiations and processes under Leighton Drury and Mick Johnsen have been weak, delayed, and ineffective. My team will ensure the Dept and Govt negotiate and listen to the FBEU, and our members. – Dane Wilmott, candidate for State Secretary.
