Meet Our Team

I was raised in Otford NSW on the edge of the Royal national park, I grew up around nature and the environment, both remain a passion of mine to this day.

I’m a second generation firefighter. My father, Mark “The Mufti” Wilmott, served for 36 years in NSWFB/FRNSW and retired at the rank of Station Officer. My uncle, Chris “The Bat” Wilmott, also served 32 years as an operational NSW firefighter. Both were proud unionists and members of the FBEU. My mother was a public school teacher and was actively involved in the NSW Teachers Federation.

I’m currently a relieving firefighter in ME1 which has given me much experience throughout NSW. I’m also a Health and Safety Representative (HSR).

Before joining FRNSW, I worked in the building and construction industry as a bricklayer, carpenter and a licensed builder. In my time in the building and construction industry I was an active CFMEU member, holding a position as a workers delegate negotiating and establishing enterprise bargaining agreements.

I do volunteer work in the marine conservation space. Currently I am the President of Nature Coast Marine Group and Surfrider Yuin Branch. I also sit on the steering committee for the Marine Parks Alliance of NSW. My involvement in this area has meant that I have attended and sat on discussion panels at marine forums consisting of over 100 people at a time and work with global networks. I have also held meetings with NSW MPs on several occasions to advocate for better marine protection in NSW and globally.

I live on the NSW south coast but if elected, I will be moving to Sydney to fulfil this important role. My pastimes include surfing, diving, fishing, snowboarding, permaculture and salsa dancing. I have an 8 year old son, 5 nieces and nephews and a kelpie called Molly.

When elected I will restore strength, democracy, and dignity to the FBEU and our members. Check out our platform suite of solutions and other candidates below. I seek your vote for State Secretary of our great union. Here’s the rest of my team below….

Jim lives in the Inner West of Sydney with his family and remains a serving FRNSW firefighter at Balmain Fire Station.

As a former State Secretary (2009-2016) and Vice President of the FBEU (2006-2009), he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this election that no other candidate can equal. He led the FBEU for seven years through some of the most difficult times we’ve faced. From the epic Centenary Event in 2010, to the successful campaign to stop permanent station closures in 2014, to the historic Worker’s Comp Strike of 2012, and everything in between, Jim has proven himself to be a formidable unionist and a highly effective FBEU Official.

During Jim’s time on the FBEU State Committee of Management, our Union enjoyed a period of internal stability and brought a good balance of militancy and strategy along with the strong democracy our union prides itself on. He (and the then SCoM) also achieved for firefighters some of the highest wage rises in the public sector through that difficult time, including the only public sector pay rises above the government minimum in 2014. The 24 hour shifts reform was also negotiated and secured whilst Jim was FBEU State Secretary.

Jim remains active in the union movement and politics, and wants nothing more than to lead this team and our members back to a strong, democratic union.

Travis is a Leading Station Officer on the Central Coast, where he lives with his family.

As a former FBEU Vice President (2006-2012), Travis also brings a broad range of skills, knowledge and experience to our team. He carried out the role of President and State Secretary several times during his multiple tenures, and sat on key union committees including the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), the Comms Consultative Committee (CCC), as well as being a Director on the Death and Disability Fund from 2006 until 2009.

Travis has performed many roles within the FBEU and FRNSW, including Comms, Operational Support, Hazmat, and Fleet which gives him invaluable insight into all areas within our organisations and industry. He was also a Health and Safety Representative (HSR) for the Central Coast.

Travis aims to bring fairness, honesty, and militancy back into the FBEU.

Anyone who knows Ben knows that a vote for Ben is a vote for independence, and fairness. Ben is a relieving firefighter out of 94 stn Kellyville, currently working within Operational Support.

Ben was on the FBEU Sydney Outer West Sub-Branch Executive and then elected as the Sydney Outer West Sub-Branch Secretary.

As another former FBEU State Committee of Management elected official on this team, Ben knows how our union works, and what we need to do in the interests of our members.
